My name is Lisa Tomkinson and I started working at SSA last year in the Young 5’s classroom. Earlier this year, I was asked to take on a new position as the At-Risk Teacher. I am loving my new position! I spent 3 years in middle school math/science and 3 years in GSRP preschool. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in 2009 from SVSU in Elementary Education with a math and science specialty. In 2016, I finished my Maters Degree in Early Childhood Education.
I tutor twice a week at the Children’s Dyslexia Center, Great Lakes Bay Region. It is a free service offered to families for children who have been diagnosed with dyslexia. On Monday’s I teach rudimental drumming for a re-enactment group in Midland. We travel all summer preforming in parades and encampments all over the state and east coast. In my spare time, I coach Bay Area RLT winter guard and dance at Bay Valley Dance and Gymnastics Academy.
I enjoy spending time with my dog at my cabin while fishing and reading. I can also be seen on stage at the Bay City Players. I’m very musical and love to perform!
I really enjoy working at SSA and I love the students and the families we serve. We are a community that comes together to help one another learn and grow. It’s going to be a great year at SSA!
